Sigma and Pi bonds
I know that a double bond it is a sigma bond and a pi bond, but when drawing it on the actual molecule do you just draw a pi bond?

Re: Sigma and Pi bonds
No you draw it like a normal double bond and just label them one as sigma and the other as pi.

I agree! The triple bond will be drawn the same way - 1 sigma, 2 pi bonds, and just label them on the Lewis structure.

Re: Sigma and Pi bonds
You must also indicate that there is a sigma bond present, in addition to the pi bond.

Re: Sigma and Pi bonds
I hope this is helpful! The two outer ones are pi bonds and the center one is a sigma bond.
Re: Sigma and Pi bonds
Nothing actually changes when you draw the lewis structures. You just have to acknowledge that if there's more than one bond, than one of them is sigma and the rest are pi.
Re: Sigma and Pi bonds
You just have to label one as a sigma bond and one a pi bond if its a double bond. If it is triple then one sigma and two pi.

Re: Sigma and Pi bonds
When you draw the bonds, you draw them as normal and just label each bond below or beneath the bond with a pi or sigma symbol.

Re: Sigma and Pi bonds
I think you can just label the bonds with their names and draw them normally.

Re: Sigma and Pi bonds
When labeling, one of the bonds is a pi bond, and the other is a sigma bond. Similarly, in a triple bond, one is a sigma bond, and the other two are pi bonds.

Re: Sigma and Pi bonds
I agree with my peers, you just draw the double bond regularly and label one sigma and one pi.
Re: Sigma and Pi bonds
When drawing a molecule, you would go about drawing the bonds as you normally would and just label the sigma bonds and pi bonds.
1 bond= 1 sigma, 0 pi
2 bonds=1 sigma, 1 pi
3 bonds= 1 sigma, 2 pi
1 bond= 1 sigma, 0 pi
2 bonds=1 sigma, 1 pi
3 bonds= 1 sigma, 2 pi

Re: Sigma and Pi bonds
sigma and pi bonds are simply labeled based on the bond type (single = 1 sigma, double = 1 sigma, 1 pi, triple = 1 sigma, 2 pi)
