### Lone Pairs

How does hybridization work for atoms with lone pair electrons? For example, HS2

### Re: Lone Pairs

Since lone pairs count as a region of electron density, I believe they would count towards hybridization. For example, in a water molecule, the oxygen has two lone pairs and two covalent bonds, and would have a hybridization of sp3.

Yes it does work, you just have to account for lone pairs when determining hybridization.
