### hybrid orbitals

How are we supposed to know whether the wavefunction of an orbital is either positive or negative? Do we have to know how to do that or is it enough by knowing what the hybrid orbitals are called? For example, in the book in 2F.2 they gave the example of Carbon, and its four hybrid orbitals- h1=s+px+py+pz, h2=s-px-py+pz, h3=s-px+py-pz, h4=s+px-py-pz, which are all sp^3 hybrids. For this class knowing that the resulting hybrid for carbon is sp^3 is enough or do we have to figure out the other stuff too?

I feel like we wouldn’t need to know that since its pretty complicated (ish)

Yes the positive or negative nature of the wave function most likely won't be necessary for 14A.
