## Unhybridized Orbitals and pi bonds

### Unhybridized Orbitals and pi bonds

Are all unpaired electrons in the unhybridized orbitals going to form a pi bond? The questions I've worked on so far that have unpaired electrons in unhybridized orbitals have a double/triple bond, which means pi bonds.

Yes. A pi bond is specifically made up of unhybridized p-orbitals that overlap side by side. Sigma bonds are formed by hybridized orbitals.

I would assume so but pi or sigma bonds come from orbitals and their overlapping such as the overlapping of parallel p orbitals. I don't think that the concept of the lone pairs making pi bonds themselves will be too important however.
