Terminal Atoms

Postby Jasmine 2C » Wed Dec 04, 2019 3:27 am

What are terminal atoms and do we need to know about them for the final?

Terminal atoms are the other atoms in a molecule that are not the central atom. For example, in methane (CH4), the carbon atom would be the central atom and the four hydrogens are all terminal atoms. For the final, I guess you should know what it means, but it is something that shouldn't be too hard to grasp.

Especially for VSEPR, we only really have to be concerned about the central atom.
