## Lone Pair Hybridization

### Lone Pair Hybridization

When writing the hybridization for a lone pair, do we include a number for the energy level of the lone pair? For example, would we write the hybridization for a theoretical lone pair on an oxygen atom double-bonded to a carbon atom as Osp² or O2sp²?

you only write out the coefficient (the 2 in 2sp3) when involved in a bond where the quantum number involved in the bond is needed. lone pairs don't need the coefficient because they aren't involved in a bond where the quantum number needs to be specified.
