### Easy trick for hybridization

Hi! Just wanted to share a trick our TA shared with us to determine hybridization. If you have a central atom, lets say in CCl4, C is the central atom, and it is EX4, you can use the "4" to help you determine hybridization: you need as many letters in the hybridization as the number in the universal equation. So in this case carbon would have spy hybridization because you have 1 s and 3 p's, adding up to 4 letters.

This won't work with things that have lone pairs. NH3 is sp3 hybridized because it still has 4 regions of electron density.
