Textbook Question 2.57

Postby Jaden Ward 3J » Wed Dec 09, 2020 2:23 am

The Atkins answer key doesn't have the answer for this specific problem, so I want to double check my answer

2.57 Acetonitrile, CH 3 CN , is used as a solvent in the pharmaceutical industry. Describe the structure of the CH 3 CN molecule in terms of hybrid orbitals, bond angles, and σ- and π-bonds. The N atom is a terminal atom.

I got 2 pi bonds and 5 sigma bonds
I also got 180 bond angle degree between the carbon and nitrogen and 109.5 degree angle between the carbon and the hydrogens
Carbon and hydrogen have a hybridization of sp3 and sp for carbon and nitrogen.
thank you
