Textbook 2F #1: Orientation

Postby Sidney Shah 3H » Mon Nov 29, 2021 3:31 pm

I was confused on what question 2F1 from the textbook is asking in terms of orientation, because the answers for the question include detail about VSEPR shape and bond angles, but is there a more specific answer or set of answers we should give if asked about the orientation of a hybridization, like sp3?

I think by orientation they mainly mean the VSEPR shape, so sp3 would be tetrahedron. I would just put the VSEPR shape and if you memorized the bond angles, you could also include that.

Yup, the answer key showed that it was looking for bond angles and electron geometry. That's all you can find since you know how many regions of electron density there are but not how many are bonded or lone pairs. I thinks it's good if you have a mental image of what the shapes are like so you can describe them, but that's about it.
