Postby Megan Bundy 2K » Fri Dec 03, 2021 12:17 am

does hybridization occur in all molecules, or only in certain molecules?

Hybridization basically occurs in all covalently bonded molecules according the examples we have been shown so far. Usually, orbitals will hybridize in covalent bonds because it allows for more efficient orbital overlap with other atoms. The only non-hybridized orbitals I can think of would be H2, where only the s-orbitals of the H atoms are involved in bonding, but I am not exactly sure (if anyone would like to provide clarification)? I hope this helps!
