Hybrid Bonds

Postby Vivien Truong 1A » Sun Dec 05, 2021 11:54 pm

Does a single electron domain have a hybrid orbital? Does the hybrid orbital s exist for this case?

Technically no because a hybrid orbital requires the presence of more than one orbital.

No, you need to have at least two orbitals to make a hybrid orbital.

This is not possible because two orbitals need to be present for a hybrid.

No you would not see any hybridization since there needs to be multiple orbitals that hybridize with one another. When we use hybridization it is to determine the possible position of the electron so with just the s orbital it would just follow the normal representation of the s-orbital around an atom.
