Is there a difference between (pi,2p)^4 and (pi,2px)^2(pi,2py)^2?

Hi Salma! There is actually no difference between (pi, 2p)^4 and (pi, 2px)^2,(pi, 2py)^2.
The electron configuration for molecular orbitals follows a similar patterns as regular electron configurations. In the question above, you simply split up the sub orbitals within the molecular diagram. This is totally okay because they are in the same energy level and you have stated the amount of electrons for the entire energy level (first set), and for each individual sub orbital (for the second set).
You can also think about this in terms of regular electron configurations. Let's look at the element Sulfur for example. You can write the electron configuration in two ways:
[Ne](3s^2)(3p^4) or [Ne](3s^2)(3px^2)(3py^1)(3pz^1)
Both are totally acceptable!
