Why is He2 not a stable molecule?

Postby Amy_Shao_2D » Wed Nov 16, 2016 9:17 pm

Is it because there are as many bonding as antibonding and then they cancel out and the bond order is 0? But then how come if the bond order is 0, that means the molecule is unstable?

Exactly, you get a BO of 0. This means there is no bond, hence no stability as a molecule.
