Why does MgBr2 have greater covalent character than NaBr?

The greater the electronegativity difference there is between two atoms, the more ionic it is and the less covalent it is. So the less difference in electronegativity, the more covalent character it has.

Covalent character has to do with polarizability in ionic compounds. MgBr2 has more covalent character than NaBr because Mg has a charge of 2+, meaning that it has high polarizing power, so it can more easily distort the electron cloud of Br.

Mg and Br have a smaller difference in electronegativity
