When the number of electrons and bond order are given for a set of molecules (for example: O2- and N2), how can the most stable molecule be determined (O2- has 13 electrons and a bond order of 1.5; N2 has 10 electrons and a bond order of 3)?
From that example, when writing the electron configurations for O2 - and N2,
would we need to specify whether it's 2px, 2py, and 2pz on the quizzes or is that optional?
If we do, how to we know what order the 2px/y/z are in or is it just by ascending order?
Also, isn't the N2 MO supposed to start from pi2p, then sigma 2p?
