Ligand Names

Are we expected to use the names for the ligands that are listed under NAMES* or the new IUPAC name convention, or are both appropriate to use as long as we are consistent?

According to the "Naming Coordination Compounds" document on the website, we use NAME* but both are accepted.

I think naming coordination compounds (with the ligands) goes the way Dr. Lavelle explained in class (for example, "chloro-"). I'm not really sure what you mean by using the new IUPAC naming convention but we should typically name things alphabetically (excluding the Greek prefixes)!

I assume you mean using "chloro" vs "chlorido" as it says in the textbook. Considering he taught us the first way in class, that will probably be whats on the test.
