charges

How do we name/include the charges shown outside of the bracket parenthesis of the coordination compounds? For example, what would I name [Fe(CN)6]4-? How does the 4- get included?

Okay so you know the overall charge of the compound has to be -4 because that is the charge outside the brackets. CN (cyano) has a -1 charge, and there are 6 CN, so the charge is -6. In order to make the overall charge -4, Fe must have a +2 charge, so you would write ferrate (II). Name is: Hexacyanoferrate(II)

Just to add on, if the complex has an overall negative charge, you add the -ate ending to the metal's name.
