Question: As far as naming coordination compounds goes, is there a special sequence to writing out the structural formula when you have to consider two or more ligands? For example, if I am asked about pentaaminesulfattocobalt(III), could I just write the NH3 group, before the SO4^2-, or is there a special sequence?

Answer: Anionic ligands should be listed first, other than that there is no conventional order.

Aren't neutral ligands before anionic ligands? Then the Transition metal?

I also thought that you're supposed to write down the neutral ligands before the anionic ones.

When writing out the formula, you write the cation transition metal first, then the anion ligands, then the neutral ligands.

The textbook also says to list the ligands in alphabetical order in Toolbox 16.1 on page 683. Are we supposed to follow this method or the method of listing anionic ligands first and then neutral ones? Some websites online are saying to list the neutral ligands first and then anionic ones. Which method should we follow?

Websites saying to name neutral ligands before anionic ones:'
