17.31 d

This problem asks for the formula for sodium bisoxalato(diaqua)ferrate(III), and I wrote Na[Fe(C2O4)2(OH2)2], but in the solution manual the aqua and the oxalato are switched in position. Why is this the case? I thought that the ligands are placed alphabetically based on their symbols?

I think ligands are written alphabetically in the name of the compound but not necessarily in the formula.
