Alphabetical order of ligands

Postby Lyndon_Bui_3J » Sun Nov 13, 2016 6:11 pm

On toolbox 17.1, there is an example that names a complex thiocyanato(kN)pentaaqua(III) iron. Why isn't pentaaqua before thiocyanato if ligands are supposed to be alphabetical? Also why is the "(III)" after aqua? Thanks!

That answer in the book is incorrect. Ligands should be in alphabetical order and the oxidation state after the transition metal.
