Naming Ligands

Postby bridgetfoy_1D » Sun Nov 13, 2016 11:49 pm

In our course reader, ligand names are Fluoro for F-, Chloro for Cl-, Bromo for Br-, etc. However, in the textbook on page 742, they are fluorido, chlorido, bromido, etc. I am guessing that our course reader has the correct names that we will be tested on? I just want to make sure I'm learning the right names.

Fluoro is the old way and fluorido is the new IUPAC way, but Dr. Lavelle will or should accept either one.
I would use fluoro though just because it is in the course reader like you said.
