Prefixes in Naming Order

Postby Nasir_Ahmed » Mon Nov 14, 2016 2:00 pm

I keep seeing online that prefixes like "di-" or "tri-" supersede alphabetical order when it comes to the ligands in naming coordination compounds. Is that true? From what I've gotten in class is that it's only based on alphabetical order.

Prefixes do not take precedence in naming order for ligands. The ligand names should be in alphabetical order and the prefixes are used according to the number of that specific ligand.

the prefixes are not what you put in alphabetical order but you put the names of ligands in alphabetical order
