Difference between H2O and OH2

In the case of compounds like water and nitrate,is there anyway for someone to recognize which atom in the molecule of the ligand is directly bonded to the metal (For water one is bonded by the H, H20, while the other is bonded by the O OH2)? Or is the order of the chemical representation negligible?

The atoms will bond where there are unshared electron pairs.

OH2 is written that way because it is just more convenient to show that the H2O is oriented that direction in order to bond to the central atom. The central atom always attaches to the oxygen atom in H2O because that is where the unshared electron pairs are located.

For example, the below image:
NH3 is written as H3N just so that the line can be drawn from the nitrogen atom more conveniently to connect it Pt.
Again, the central atom (Pt) bonds to the atom where the unshared electron pair(s) are located (N).
