Naming Coordination Compounds

When naming coordination compounds that Fe in it, when do you use "ferrate" and "iron"?

Iron is used when the compound is positively charged, and ferrate is used when the compound is negatively charged.

not sure how to post a question, but how do we know when to use cyano or cyanido for cn? Also, how do we know which is attached, the C or the N, for example of Cyanide?
