naming order of things outside the bracket
How do you know to name the compounds outside the bracket before the compound or after? I've seen it vary with different examples and Im wondering if there is a rule or not

When the atom outside is the cation, you name it first. When the atom outside is the anion, you name it last. When it is last, you add the ending -ide. No such thing is necessary when it is first.

I was confused at first as well when I encountered some of the questions on the homework. Then I realized that the cation always precedes the coordination sphere and the anion always proceeds the coordination sphere.
To think of it in simpler terms, think of a compound as simple as NaCl - the cation Na comes first and then the anion Cl comes after. Therefore, when you're writing out a formula, look at it in terms of charge.
