tetraamminediaquacobalt(III)bromide

How come the answer, "[Co(NH3)4(H20)2]Br3" Bromide has a subscript of 3?

[Co(NH3)4(H20)2] has an overall charge of +3 and each bromide ion has a charge of -1, so three bromide ions are needed to balance the charges in this ionic compound, hence the subscript 3.

How do you know that it is Br3 and not 3BR- ? Does it make a significant difference when answering the question?
