When would you use “ion” at the end of compound?

If the whole compound is either positively or negatively charged (it would be at the end of the compound). If the compound has no charge then it won't be called an ion.

An ion is anything with a charge to it, so it can either be negative or positive. Ex: Ca^2+, Na+, Cl-

An ion is an particle that has a charge, positive or negative. If there's no charge, it's not an ion. In a compound, it is usually at the end.

An ion is any atom with a nonzero charge. A positive ion is a cation. A negative ion is an anion. You would use ion in naming if the atom or compound is nonzero in charge.
