Neutral ligand

Postby Michelle Nwufo 2G » Sat Dec 01, 2018 3:22 am

If the ligand is neutral, meaning it has no charge, how do we find the oxidation number of the metal?

The oxidation number of the metal will be the same as the charge of the complex.

One way of determining charge of complex is through the presence of anions or cations outside []. Basically, the overall charge of the complex equals the charge on the anion or cation present.
