Naming the Shape
What is an easy way to find the charge of the molecule within the compound without drawing the structure?
Re: Naming the Shape
I would say the easiest way is just to draw out the compound, especially if it is not too large of a molecule. It's also probably the easiest way to check your answer.

The easiest way to determine charge would probably be to just draw the Lewis structure and find the formal charge.

I think the only way to really determine the shape is to draw it, so that you can visualize where the bonds and lone pair electrons are!

Personally I have to draw out the lewis structure so I can physically see the vsepr model (the AXE form).

Personally, I think drawing the Lewis structure is most helpful when determining the formal charge. Visually seeing the bonds and lone pairs of each element help reassure you are calculating the charge correctly.
