OH2 vs H2O

Postby Germar G 4F » Wed Dec 05, 2018 6:14 pm

In some answers from the HW, for example 17.31 6th edition, they write H2O as OH2. Is there a reason for that? If so, when do we write it OH2?

In some answers, H2O is written as OH2 because we want to emphasize that the oxygen atom in the water molecule is the partially negative part of the ligand that binds to the metal central atom in the coordination compound.

If we write H2O when OH2 is in the answer, is it wrong?

I don't think so Cienna, but I would ask your TA first

They are the same and you can write it in both ways.
