Ligand Names

Hi. I was wondering, do we have to know both the old and new convention ligand names for writing the formula based off the name? Also, when writing the name of the compounds, would using either convention work or is one preferred over the other? Thanks

I think using either will be fine! I have heard before that Lavelle will be using the old convention. Can someone confirm this please?

I think you can use either. Many TAs and UAs have said they prefer the old names, which makes sense because they're easier. For the test, both will be correct.

On Prof. Lavelle's website, the link to naming of coordinate compounds says that both are acceptable.
