When writing out the full name for coordinate compounds which include a ligand such as ethylenediamine (en), can we still use the shorthand or do we have to remember the actual names?

The shorthand should be used within the formulas so as not to write out the long formula for ethylenediamine, etc, not as a substitute for the name itself.

it can be used when naming, but when putting it in brackets, you should know what it consists of. Also better to just know the full name as well.
