Chloro vs Chlorito
Is there a difference between the two? In class we use chloro but the book calls it chlorito.

I don't think chlorito is correct. You can use either chloro or chlorido - they're both on Prof. Lavelle's website. Here's the link - https://lavelle.chem.ucla.edu/wp-conten ... pounds.pdf

I don't think there is a difference. Some of the names in the book are slightly different because the IUPAC Name Convention recently changed some of the names. However if you check the coordination compound list on Lavelle's website, it will show you which ones are the same.

If a chloride ion is present, you change the -ide ending to chlorido. Typically chloro is not used to refer to a Cl- ion in a compound.

I think one of them is just the new naming convention, but I believe we can use either.

Dr. Lavelle has used chloro in his lecture notes so that would be a safe bet.

Re: Chloro vs Chlorito
I believe both are acceptable, but I would stick with chloro like in the lecture notes just to be sure since that is the convention used by the professor.

Re: Chloro vs Chlorito
I think that both suffixes are acceptable, but the -o form would probably be best to use since that is what we are taught in lectures.
