The cation ion is listed first. The ligands are listed in alphabetical order (not including their numerical prefixes) and then the metal ion and its charge and then the anion.

The metal ends in -ate if the whole coordination complex has a net negative charge. The example that Lavelle gave in class was [Ni(CN)4]-2.

^^ yep [Ni(CN)4]2- is tetracyanonickelate(II). As you can see the ligand is first with its prefix, then the transition metal with its Roman numeral, and it ends in -ate because of its negative charge.
