Exceptions

Postby Rohan Kubba Dis 4B » Fri Nov 22, 2019 9:13 pm

Are there any exceptions to the naming rules other than the fact that if a coordinate compound is negatively charged we add and -ate? If so, what are they?

In addition to rules discussed in class, also remember that if you are given a coordinate covalent compound that contains a nonzero net charge, you must add “ion” at the end of the name, such as [Co(NH3)4Br]+2 would be named
tetraamminebromocobalt(III) ion

Return to “Naming”
