Oxidation number is added in Roman numerals in parentheses after the name of the transition metal. You only do this for elements that have more than one ox state.

For transition metals, the oxidation number is an important part of the naming process with a Roman numeral indicating the oxidation state being placed after the transition metal.

does the oxidation number come at the end of the entire compound? or just the transition metal

The only time you would ever really have an oxidation number is in transition metals because all the other elements have consistent values

You add the oxidation number in parentheses after the transition metal if they have multiple oxidation states. Ex: iron(II) oxide and iron(III) oxide
