Naming for Hydrocarbons

Postby alicechien_4F » Wed Dec 04, 2019 1:00 pm

Do we need to memorize hydrocarbons for coordinate compounds? For example, do we need to know the formula for "ethylene" in ethylenediamine and how to draw it? If we do, what other common hydrocarbons should we know? Thanks!

I really doubt that you would have to memorize the hydrocarbon structures, since that is basically organic chemistry. It would however be helpful to know some common hydrocarbons, such as benzene, methane, and ethane.

I believe we also need to know what a carboxyl group looks like, as well as other structurs we learned such as benzene or ethene.
