Ligands
This might be a dumb question but are polydenate ligands and bidenate ligands the same thing?
Re: Ligands
A bidentate is a polydentate because it binds to the central metal atom at two sites. Polydentates also include ligands that bind to the central metal atom at more than two sites.

Re: Ligands
They are both chelating ligands because they are complexes that contain a ligand that forms a ring of atoms around a central atom. The ring is formed because 2 electron pairs are donated for bidentate ligands. Polydentate ligands just have to donate more than one electron pair.

Re: Ligands
Bidentate is a form of polydentate. Polydentate can also refer to tridentate, tetradentate. Chelating are polydentate, but polydentate is not necessarily chelating.
