-ate

Postby Ghadir Seder 1G » Sun Dec 08, 2019 6:34 pm

I understand that you add -ate to the end of the metal if the compound is charged, so is there anything you do if it is a positive charge rather than a negative?

Nope for a positive charge you don't need to add anything.

You don't need to add anything for positive ions or neutral molecules

You do not have to add anything for a positively charged one.

You do not have to add anything to positively or neutral charged ones. It is only if it is negatively charged that you add the -ate

No, ate is only added to an anion!

Nothing for positive only if the ion is an anion (negatively charged).

You leave positive or neutral names of the metal the same.

Only if the metal coordination compound is an anion

You add -ate to a negatively charged molecule/anions in which you would use their Latin name (ex. Ferrate, Cuprate, etc). You don't need to change anything for a positively charged molecule.

The -ate is only added for a negatively charged ion. For neutral and positively charged ion, just the metal name is required
