Sapling 9 Q1
Hello, I've been having trouble figuring out the name of the compound [Co(NH3)6]Cl3 To my understanding, ammonia is neutral so the only thing affecting the charge of the coordinate compound are the three chlorines, giving it an overall charge of 3-. This is why cobalt has (III) by it as its charge is 3+. There are 6 ammonia so the name I came up with is hexaamminecobalt(III) chloride. I thought I was following naming conventions and seemed to understand the problem, but I can't seem to get it right even after changing my answer around a bit. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me and tell my what I'm doing wrong; thank you!

Try Hexamminecobalt(III) Chloride.
I think u only need 1 a for hexammine and also you spelt cobalt wrong.

I did the same thing! I spelled ammine 'amine' and could not figure out why the problem kept marking the question incorrect. Glad you figured it out :)

The species in the brackets are ligands and the species out of it aren't. Ligands are listed alphabetically and the roman numerals indicate oxidation state.
