Re: "(en)" Sapling
Hi! en is shorthand for ethylenediamine (H2NCH2CH2NH2). It's a bidentate ligand, so when it's in a complex it contributes two to the coordination number. Hope this helps!

Re: "(en)" Sapling
En is short for ethylenediamine C2H4(NH2)2, a bidentate molecule. So whenever you see en, it count for a coordination number of 2.

Re: "(en)" Sapling
Hi, I had this question too so I googled it.
There are a lot of available charts with the abbreviations for chemical compounds. It would be helpful to save one of these charts as a future reference.
As mentioned in other replies, (en) is for ethylenediamine (H2NCH2CH2NH2).

(en) is short for ethylenediamine (H2NCH2CH2NH2). It is a bidentate ligand (from the two nitrogens) and contributes 2 to the coordination number of the central atom.
Hope this helps.

Thank you to everyone for the clarification, I also was wondering what that meant as well!

En is the abbreviation for the coordination compound ethylenediamine. It's a bidentate ligand which means that its nitrogens donate their lone pairs when it acts as a donor.

Hello, "en" is just short for ethylenediamine! When doing the question don't forget that it is a bidentate! This messed me up a little too. Hope this helped!

(en) is short for ethylenediamine. I'm pretty sure there are more compounds that have similar naming nature so make sure to read about those ones too as it might be on the test!

Re: "(en)" Sapling
En is a ligand which is the short name for ethylenediamine. The key thing to remember here is that ethylenediamine or en is bidentate. Therefore, when counting for coordination number count this as 2 ligands. Confusing but check out the ligand page Lavalle has it helps a lot.
