Pentaaminechloronickel (lll) chloride.

Quiz three prep gives the chemical formula to this compound as [Ni (NH3)5Cl] Cl2 but I thought that the elements had to be ordered alphabetically by their symbol. Cl is after the NH3 but shouldn't it be written before if this alphabetical rule applies?

The alphabetical rules applies when naming the compound. For example, if [Ni(NH3)5Cl]Cl2 were given, the answer is pentaaminechloronickel (III) chloride in which the ligands are placed in alphabetical order. However, for questions where the name is given and the formula is to be found, the order is usually [Metal...Ligand...]^charge, with the counter ion attached if it exists.
