using the word ion

Postby Dahriel Aron 3A » Sat Nov 14, 2015 2:12 pm

Should we just make it a general rule to attach the word "ion" to the end of every name?

No, you should not be attaching the word ion for every one of them. If you are naming a coordination compound (distinct from a complex cation or anion), then you will not be attaching the word ion.
Just to clarify:
[Fe(CN)6]4- is a complex anion
[FeCl(OH2)5]2+ is a complex cation
[Cr(NH3)4(OH)2]Br is a coordination compound so you will not be adding ion to its name
