General Naming
This is a very general question, but how much do we have to memorize for the final in terms of specific ligand names, which ones are monodentate, bidentate, etc? There is a lot and there is not much specificity around which ones we need to know or just all of them.

Re: General Naming
In general, I think it would be a good idea to memorize/be familiar with all the ligand examples the professor mentioned during lecture, as well as if they are polydentate or not. There is also a document linked on his website called "Naming Coordination Compounds", which I think we should also be familiar with. Hope this helps!

Re: General Naming
Hello! I would recommend to be familiar with the examples from the lecture and also those on the "Naming Coordination Compounds" sheet on his website.

Re: General Naming
If you are familiar with how to name metal (ionic) and non-mental compounds this should set a good foundation for naming coordination compounds as naming structure for this expands on the similar roots for atoms (ex: ammonia -> ammine)
Re: General Naming
I would focus on understanding the naming patterns so that you can use them for any situation instead of memorizing specific coordination complexes. Hope that helps!

Re: General Naming
You should definitely try and memorize the guidelines listed on his website, but keep in mind that the final will be multiple choice, so you'll be presented with options for the name of a compound rather than have to come up with one from scratch. I'm not sure if this makes naming them easier or harder since it's possible that seeing several similar names could be confusing, but it is helpful to remember you'll be presented with a choice rather than come up with the name completely on your own.

It would probably be good to be familiar with the names mentioned in lecture. There's also a coordination compound name sheet on Lavelle's website that you can look at as well
