Naming for certain Ligands

Postby Chris Korban 1D » Mon Nov 29, 2021 7:57 pm

For the individual element ligands like F- or Cl- the in class lecture said that it was flouro or Chloro but the book says that its chlorido and flourido. Do we have to drop the whole -ide or do we only need to replace the e with an o?

The difference in chloro and chlorido and fluoro and fluorido is which naming convention you use (IUPAC or the old one, with IUPAC having chlorido and fluorido). On the exam we can use either and it will count as correct.
