Textbook Problem 9C.3 part D

Postby Joanne Sarsam 2F » Mon Nov 29, 2021 11:10 pm

Hi,

In this problem, we are asked to write down the formula for the compound sodium bisoxolato(diaqua)ferrate(III). in the answer key, they write down water before the other the oxalate in the molecular formula. Does it matter if we write hte water before or after the oxalate, or does it mean the same thing? Thanks!

You can write the water or oxolate first, however technically the ligands should go in alphabetical order following the central metal atom.
