Order of Naming Coordination Complexes
For the coordination complex [Cr(ox)(Cl)3]-, would the oxalato or trichorido part come first? For example, should it be oxalatotrichloridochromate (IV) ion or trichloridooxalatochromate (IV) ion?

Re: Order of Naming Coordination Complexes
The book says "Ligands are named in alphabetical order, ignoring any Greek prefix", so I think it would be trichloridooxalatochromate (IV) ion because, ignoring the 'tri', the c in chlorido comes before the o in oxalato. This is just my interpretation, someone please correct me if I'm wrong!
Re: Order of Naming Coordination Complexes
The chlorido would go before the oxalato. You order them alphabetically, then add the prefixes to them.
Hope this helps!

Hello! Chlorido would go first because they're supposed to be listed in alphabetical order. You should remember to ignore prefixes when doing this.

Hi,
The chlorido would come before the oxalato. This is because when naming coordination complexes, ligands are listed in alphabetical order.

Since ligands are named alphabetically, the chlorido would be named before the oxalato.

Re: Order of Naming Coordination Complexes
Like previous posts mentioned, chlorido would come before the oxalato. The reason for this is that ligands are mentioned/ listed in alphabetical order.

For this compound the trichlorido would go first because you name the ligands one alphabetical order.

they go in alphabetical order so the chloro would go before the oxalato, any prefix on chloro/ any other ligand is ignored for the order they are written in

Re: Order of Naming Coordination Complexes
Chlorido is meant to go before the oxalato, since the ligands are named in alphabetical order, putting aside prefixes.
