Lone pairs in molecules

Postby Ethan_Lee_1E » Wed Nov 13, 2024 11:36 pm

How do lone pairs of electrons affect the shape of a molecule, and why do they make bond angles smaller than expected?

Lone pairs cause electron pair repulsion. They will make bond angles smaller because the electron pair will take up space within the molecule and repel other electron bonds and pairs.
