Why are some ligands written backwards in the examples and diagrams shown in class?

In order to clearly show which atom is being bound to the central atom, the ligands are sometimes written backwards.

The bonds have to be formed with the central atom of the ligand, because the other atoms attached to the ligands are not able to bond anymore.
