Can someone please explain how you can determine when a ligand can be polydentate? what makes a ligand polydentate?

If a ligand has more than one donor atom (an atom that can bond with the central metal atom) it is polydentate.

A polydentate ligand has more than one donor atom, so it can occupy more than one binding site at a time.

A molecule is polydentate if it can bind to more than one lone pair of electrons on 2 DIFFERENT atoms.
